Radio Downloader is a utility to allow people to easily download radio station content.

It brings Podcast-like abilities to stream downloading, as well as handling Podcasts. This gives you the convenience of being able to subscribe to regular downloads of your favourite programmes, which you can then listen to on your pc or mp3 player.

Radio Downloader is supported on Windows 7, Vista and XP, and is freely available for your personal use under the GPL.

[Eds Note: Being a fan of radio comedy and fiction this programme is fantastic for me. I can subscribe to a series, it will then quietly download the eposodes in the background as they become available, converting them to mp3s as it goes. All I have to do is upload them to my phone and I have loads to listen to on long journeys]

Another great html editor. It isn't WYSIWYG but you can see a copy of the page as you type in the code and refresh. If you aren't good with html code then there is a lot of help with building tables, formatting text etc..

Perhaps the best know of the Linux distributions and one of the simplest to install and run.

Comes complete with all the basic software you could need for word processing, we browsing etc.. if you need any more there is a nice online depository of programmes which you can download and install with a couple of clicks.

Ignore the "tvcatchup" bit in the title this UK only (at the moment) piece of software will let you  watch many of the most popular Freeview Channels on your computer without any additional hardware. You need to join, but that is free, download and install the software or use the browser based version. You will then have acdess to BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, ITV 1,2,3,4, Dave, Film 4 , E4, Cbbc, Citv etc including some of the +1 channels.

You may ask "What use is this, when I already have a digital TV".. well not everyone can get the digital channels, even though the "normal" channels are being switched off. Plus those of you with children will know how often you loose control of the remote... tired of watching Cbeebies every day, now you can sit with you laptop and headphones and watch whilst still keeping an eye on your kids.

This is a new programme and we are promised a "record" function in the coming months which will make this great free facility even better.

I highly recommend this as a great way to watch Freeview Channels. It is totally legal and I use it constantly to avoid Bob the Builder and Fifi :-) - (Read more)

A great little utility for windows which enables you to run multiple desktops, rather like they have in most version of Linux. This is free for personal use.

With multiple desktops you can have seperate ones for seperate uses.. e.g. one for graphics programmes, one for internet programmes etc etc. - (Read more)

Simply 100s of free games. All of them are old and classified as "abandonware".
